Buy 2 2002 Saturn SL1s in manual or auto. Always good to have a spare car

SL1 is the singe cam engines that will get 40mpg driven by a monkey...
SL2 is the dual cam that is a bit more thirsty but has 20ish more HP

While probably older than you want, the Saturn SL sedans were designed so the transmission oil pump was connected to the axles.
Place the manual out of heart and there was no speed or distance limitations.

A new requirement has been added mostly by my spouse.
The car should be 2005 or newer.

Re: the Saturns.
The transmission pump is remarkable on the Saturns and they are very common towed vehicles behind RV's due to this feature.

A new requirement is 5 star crash rating. That eliminates the Toyota Echo/Yaris. I see that the Toyota Corolla is 5 star. Is that a better car than a civic?

My current vehicle (Jeep Liberty) Has now been sent to the junkyard. (too costly to fix) So the search is on in earnest. What specifics items should I look for in looking at these cars? I know it is important for the civic hybrid to find the age of the battery and if any codes are being shown. Any other advice is recommended.
