...not to mention cancelling the USCar program, where a consortium of govt and industry was developing real fuel saving tech...

Does any one remember about 3 years ago a certian congress member (I am not going to name names) wanted to get a comission together to research the feasability of getting hydrogen from jupiter for use in cars?
How can any one be so freaking stupid.
When I herd it I could not believe it. Good thing I had a DVR cable box. Yeah she said it.

Well, that's one way to get funding for the space program :-)

Jupiter has done a pretty good job of sweeping up high speed objects that might have otherwise flattened us.
It isn't the worst idea in the solar system, sort of like a reverse mortgage though, can we run Jupiter dry right when the sun goes supernova sort of thing
Since there isn't O2 readily available, the transporter would have to be solar powered or fusion or ??? It probably wouldn't be powered by burning hydrogen, but would take noticable energy to strip it off of jupiter and decelerate it so it "descends" toward earths orbit, with a really tricky job on the collection side of things.
Gotta think that there is far more promise in plain old solar, especially if space utensils are an option.

That's boring.
Didn't Einstein say keep it simple (but not too simple)?

Maybe, but I believe William of Ockham said it much earlier, and rather more neatly: "entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem", or - loosely translated into English - pick the simplest explanation that explains all the known facts. (AKA Occam's Razor).

Nope, don't remember that. Google doesn't remember it either, as the only hit is... your post. Please share.

I searched too, couldn't find it. Only saw it on the news, I guess it was never put in print.
