POLO Dynamic

Hello,

Planning on doing a full underbody panels with wheel wind deflectors
and rear diffuser on a 1.4 Polo 16v. This version of the polo comes with
sport suspension from factory therefore it has already been lowered
from the standard model.

Below is posted some designs. My main concern is (pics 1 & 2) where I
have to lower the engine undertray to allow heat to escape. Also
the transmission and oil sump tank sit low so there is not much
options to have the front engine undertray any higher.

Your looking at the front undertray area of around 10cm height and 1
metre across.

Q: Is this bad as I will be increasing the frontal area. Am I
DEFEATING the object here therefore this design won't see much
performance or economical improvement?

Are you blocking off the inner wheel wells too? Otherwise you shouldn't have to vent the engine bay.

The belly pans look good. Don't over think them- just get out the knife and start working!

+1

Just get started and try. If something doesn't work, rip it off and try again. Coroplast is cheap, so don't be afraid to waste a little.

I need to listen to myself here. I've been overthinking a front air dam and belly pan for my truck for WAAY too long.....

Cold air intakes are for performance only, they can increase fuel consumption. A diesel, on the other hand, likes cold air for both economy and performance, so a CAI is OK, and if it's a turbo then an intercooler may help too.

Also, if it's a diesel, then place the CAI elsewhere, maybe lower, so that you can block off the upper grille. That shouldn't cause problems with overheating (unless you're racing), but will shorten warmup time and add a slight aero advantage.

@ Sven7: Yeah. I'm blocking it and also thinking of ways to reduce the area in the dams without lowering the vehicle more than it has been already.
I came up with this design

@Piwoslaw: It's petrol

Also I've bought some fibreglass panels. Two doors, Bonnet, Front wings and rear hood. Before having them sanded and sprayed i've been making sure they actually fit right. I've only managed to try one of the front wings and the bonnet so far.

I just went ahead and bought them without thinking what problems can occur.i.e fixing points. But so far it's good.

Why use springs and complicated mechanisms?

I want my car looking standard as possible. I don't have a garage and if it's parked on the road side the idiots who live in England, UK will no doubt wanna sabotage it. You get some real idiots here.

Also I know my car won't be economic as a lot of you guys have done but every little bit counts It's true I think too much but I love it. Anyway first things first. Have to do the belly pan.
