Power Steering delete for fuel economy gain - anyone done it?

There's a couple threads on here specifically talking about 4th gen Camry's and as of yet nobody has found a manual rack that fits. Camry's had ps from the beginning and even a AE-80 series manual Corolla rack would be hard to source and would be too small

If inspection dinged you, was it because they drove it without p/s or because the lines were missing?

If they drove it, then it needs to be working.

If they simply saw the lines missing, just put something in there, it doesn't have to work, just look good. You can make anything LOOK like it works,

They didn't drive it actually, my uncle knows the shop so he asked them if I needed PS and they said yes, it needs to be the same as original. Haven't taken it in yet, it's hard since the cars in the next province and I'm at college without it now because of this problem. I have to find ways home on weekends to work on it
