Prius engine conversion

Where is the major difference in the Atkinson vs the Otto? Could you take the Prius head and put it in the echo, giving you an effective Atkinson cycle engine? I think the crank in the Prius might be custom for the Prius and it's motor generators.
At some point, you may be investing thousands into an Echo, and at the end of the day you have an Echo. It may be easier to find a first gen Prius at some point.

I've already considered to do it in a Corolla when my grandma had it. Injection timing might also have some difference...
