Prius sets new cannonball run record.

A few weeks ago i attended the 50th anniversary cannonball run reunion in Long Island NY. Afterwards i set out on my second attempt to break the solo nonstop record. The previous record was 35:03. The new record is now 33:45. The story was made public this morning. Enjoy

You know you are an Ecomodder when you complain about ONLY getting 48 mpg at 80 mph.

Until ?t=231 I was wondering about spotter helicopters, but the crowd-sourced heat map sounds awesome. I'm skeptical of cell phones because of their app stores. Is the program from Github or did you need to jail-break the phone? No idea how that works.

That’s average speed of 84 over 2800 miles. To obtain that average one must often drive at much higher speeds. 100-105 was the norm when and where possible.

I was getting about 43mpg average driving at 90mph cruise control set from Boise to salt lake. That’s almost a 400 mile trip. Same mpg driving in Texas and New Mexico at about 89/90mph cruise control

Congrats! That is a huge bucket list experience for me. I'm very jealous.

I was hoping they do another of the sub 100hp runs like they did last year. I believe they called it the Musketball Rally.

Would love taking my Metro to that event.

HI,

Definitely a cool accomplishment! Wow...

I'll check out the video when I get a chance.

Just curious but what mods did you do to the car to make the run ?

Thanks

Andrew

His gas mileage dropped to under 20 mpg when he was over 100 mph.

He could use a few aero mods. Wouldn't take much to see benefits in mpg at 100 mph.

The real trick was crowd-sourcing the situational awareness, but yeah.

Delete the drivetrain swap; add a boat tail.
