Thanks Dave.
Perhaps Neil's book by Goro Tamai will cover these animals. There doesn't appear to be a lot published on these critters.
And the lower we go with drag reduction, the more important they become.

Looks like the Edison, in this view, avoids the Template everywhere, and it looks as though the fairings would "Trap" air between the fairings and the body, considering the taper layout.

I'll try 'n put up some images to compliment the 'Template'
Here is a plan-view of the AST Part-C gen-II.It is based upon a the trailing portion of a 3.92:symmetrical wing section. This contour has been used successfully on some of the lowest drag vehicles tested and is my current 'buy' recommendation for modding.
Here (in the center image) is the actual wing section I'm recommending. It is the aft portion, adjusted to the body width of your car which you'd use.

Why would not the wheel fairings "need" to be the same shape as the middle figure...the .0592?

My original Auto X-Prize design was similar to this view of the Edison car, at the rear, with the cabin and the front being more "Template like". The Aerodynamicist I was involved with, Paul Glessner, said the rear wheel pods created more drag than if the wheels were inclosed within the body.

I am planning to build a teardrop shaped body that is 3ft. at it's widest and 16ft. length. It will be a reverse trike design with a curved front end and resemble a 1906 Stanley Rocket. The only modification that I am making is a headrest fairing similar to a 1950's Indy race car.

3' x 16' seems a little long or thin according to the template, but it'll look cool! It reminds me of my Soap Box Derby car, too bad I had it going the wrong direction.

The body will be a single cockpit with room for my dog. :^)
I talk with Barnaby Wainfan about his designs.
You must know him.

I'm not sure how many.
I have been trying to put him in touch with someone that can fund an aeronautical design project, his Facetmobile.

It will be interesting to see the final design of the E2 suspension.
From what I have read, the front suspension might evolve into a multiple-link design.
I'm not a fan of hanging everything on the uprights. Too much weight is like a heavy jackhammer pounding the pavement and affecting the steering control.
I am building my suspension with the coil over shocks and carbon ceramic disc brakes inboard. It is more aerodynamic and less prone to damage.
I am planning to use front Ducati 1098 brake calipers for the front and rear.
