I've been holding my breath for Toyota to deliver a light diesel truck, but they let Dodge have it. Maybe I'll buy a used Dodge in 6 years or so, or maybe I'll keep holding my breath.

I agree that a manual is still better, but that 8 speed is far from slush.

That appeals to exactly you and 3 other UPS drivers. Not exactly a market anybody is going after.

I think there would be a pretty good market for a 4 BT 1/2 ton or whatever the modern day equivalent would be. Make it somewhere around 3 to 3.5 liters. The 3.9 4BT might be a little rough running for most. Seems to me that the big 4 would be much cheaper to build than the V-6.

Cummins still makes the 4 cylinder B-series engine (i.e. the "4BT"). It's now a 4.5L engine--it went from 3.9L to 4.5L when the 6 cylinder engine went from 5.9L to 6.7L. It's no longer sold for on-highway in the US, but it is sold for off-highway in the US an on-highway in Europe, Brazil, & other places.

Cummins also makes a 3.3L 3 cylinder B series engine. I know a guy who put one in a Jeep.
