Surely there's a lawsuit in there somewhere for falsifying information?
Or maybe he can claim he did it for "entertainment value".

Media CAN'T be trusted. They write what they like, whatever it true or not. Much of it is just made up, much of it comes in as pressreleases from companies, and content is rarely cheked by the reporter. May be a tiny rest has some real true in it.
Lesses to be learned? Don't belive what you read in the paper, og waht they tell you on the telly!

Which is it, lying or literary license?

Interesting. I remember the Top Gear test of the Tesla, where a couple of newspapers claimed the show had lied about the car running out of charge after 55 miles. Jeremy Clarkson defended himself in his own news column, and pointed out that Tesla hadn't disputed their test, but this seems to contradict that, more than 3 years later.

I love the fact that Musk was able to refute, point-by-point, much of what the writer claimed went wrong during the test.

I do hope this goes away soon as it could hurt the cause for EV's, and it's already hard enough convincing most people that range isn't the issue they think it is

I'm getting the opposite impression. I think a side effect of the hubbub is that lot of people will be woken up to the possibility that an electric car might actually work for their needs.
Musk has a larger-than-life personality, and he's showing it in his response to the NYTimes piece. At the same time, the NYTimes author did not do himself any favors either with some of his commentary and in particular with the way he treated the car and the advice he got on his trip. I mean, come on! What other car in its class comes with so much support?

The New York Times has to do what it can to save it's reputation - it is their most valuable asset. Mr. Broder is trying to spin things but he is a journalist - and not an entertainer. I watched Transport Evolved podcast #138 and Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield ( http://www.youtube.com/user/aminorjourney ) and she mentions that the BBC "reports" on this in a one-sided self-serving way.
I think that Elon Musk knew what he was doing.
