I worked for 34 years, and only drove a single occupant automobile 2 years total.

My first year, I motorcycled @ 75 mpg, 5 miles each way, year-round.

The next 5 years, I motorcycled when temperatures were >10ºF, and carpooled w/3 riders during the cool weather, 32 miles each way.

The next 6 years, I bicycled 6.5 miles each way in the summer, and took the bus in the winter.

The next 3 years, I motorcycled 17 miles each way down to 10ºF, and rode the bus when it got cold.

For one year, I carpooled 17 miles each way with a neighbor.

For 7 years, I had a 40 mile commute. I rode a ferry and BART for a year, rode vanpools for 5 years, and carpooled for one year. When I rode the vanpools, I bicycled 6.5 miles each way to get to them.

For 3 years, I carpooled about 35 miles each way.

For 2 years, I worked in a secure facility in Georgia, and drove my SOV 3 miles to work. I couldn't bicycle or walk because of the heat, and because the site just wasn't set up to allow bicycles to enter (fast highways, major boulevards leading to the site).

For six years, I rode buses and BART to two sites about 32 and 35 miles away.

You wimps making excuses are just rationalizing your weakness

Well, good thing that capitalist != communist, eh? :P

Of course, I'll not charge you for my free time, either.

i would aim for the IRS 47cents per mile (or whatever it is today). since that calculates wear and tear.
if i had more than one passenger i guess 24cents per mile each. lol.

How hard have you tried?
This is where cell phones and text messaging comes in handy as it cuts down on redundant trips, waiting around and missed rides.

2009 was 55 cents per mile, 2010 is 50 cents per mile for the IRS.

I would car pool more but instead I changed jobs so I was closer to work, then I moved so I was slightly closer to work again, but now I'm even closer to everything else and I still call up people before I make most of my car trips to see if we can combine a trip.
