I don't think you annoyed anyone, certainly not me. I was trying to make a joke there, off the differences between British and American English. As in "knocking up" someone :-)

I believe there's a substantial difference in real estate prices. (MN = Minnesota, right? There's one for the Daily Annoyances thread, those stupid two-letter codes for states.) My neighbor's son moved to Iowa recently, and bought a pretty nice house for about $40K. Around here you might get a one bedroom condo for twice that. Since a lot of fixed costs for schools and other stuff the property tax pays for are pretty much the same wherever you live, the tax rates need to be higher where property values are lower.

You do insist on making this political. With the usual sarcastic crap thrown in to stir the pot.
First you label me a libertarian, then you say I should love "the perfect Republican" (apparently your veiled assessment of Obama).
You like to spout politics, but all you did was demonstrate that you don't know the difference between a Libertarian and a Republican, and that Obama isn't far enough Left for you.
Obviously you disdain everyone who is not of the far Left, and I am not surprised.

The last home I bought was 2 years old is 88'x40' including attached shop and is on 28 acres. Has a barn and 3 ponds. Less than $90k. Taxes are 700 a year.
One of things that I look for is the suitability for designing in a safe room.

Safe rooms are usually for tornados and other nasty natural events. Could also be a fortified place for a defense from home invasion or to store valuables.

Oh, but one of my favorite pieces of music is Carolan's "Fan** Power". Which, whatever you might think, is actually a woman's name. (Find the Patrick Ball recording if you want to hear it played properly.)

Yes a "safe room" is a secure room that one keeps valuables and or some essential stuff. Usually made from reinforced concrete.
A safe room might work for all disasters.
