I'm thinking it may change transportation about as much as the Segway did.

And then there's always the electric scooter, which doesn't need good coordination or balance to use...

There is a term for vehicles like that long board and the electric unicycles that I just heard today, Last Mile vehicles, they are ideal for people who don't want to own a car and who take public transit who otherwise walk or bike a mile or more to their transit stop, an electric vehicle that you can then take with you on the public transit and take that last mile to your job or school is ideal!
It's not about replacing bikes or replacing walking, it's about replacing cars and if you can take your transportation with you to your office or class room then it's going to appeal to a much larger group.

Why not a push scooter? Or a regular skateboard? They weigh about 4-6 pounds. Not too much trouble to lug into a classroom. 15 pounds seems excessive. 12 is better, but get it under 10 pounds and now we're talking.
After looking harder at it, the product seems nice, good form factor and reportedly not much extra effort to push yourself, but the audience for this is going to be limited.

You overestimate the willingness of the average American to exert physical effort.
