The main reason an EV is a viable vehicle option is because it's 90% efficient while a petrol one is ~25%. If petrol vehicles were 50% efficient, far fewer people would be interested in an EV. This is an example of how Jevons Paradox works.

This resonated. Lately I have had a lot of interest in the EV side, because fuel here is expensive, electricity is cheap, and off idle, the hybrid system contributes twice the torque of the gasoline engine.
Upsizing the batteries is by far the lowest hanging fruit in almost every category, and the engine is relatively just along for the ride.
