I got around the whole outdoor condenser concern. I've been using a ground referenced heat pump (some call geothermal) since 1980. The whole heat pump is one small unit sitting in my garage which I run well water through to transfer heat to/from the internal condenser. The water exiting the unit goes back into the ground through two return wells.
