Cd - if I'm looking at instant mpg it's all over the place, but it changes predictably. I might see high 20s on a slight incline and 70s on a slight downhill on a road that before having a scangauge I saw as "flat". I consider this normal. For looking at what mpg you get at a steady speed with a scangauge you can reset the current trip and watch your avg mpg, then make a run in the opposite direction and average the 2. I don't know if the superMID could do something simmilar.

I have another data point. My wife drive son back to school, 300 lbs passenger plus cargo.
Max speed 90.5 mph, avg driving speed 60.5 mph. distance 266.7 miles. weather clear, temperature 79F, wind 15 mph, sw. She said she drove between 67 and 75 mph, she forgot that the speedometer reads slow my 10%. A cop on a bull horn told her to slow down. So that would be between 74 and 83 mph interstate driving, plus some city driving with no hypermiling and 12 hypermiles that I drove. 6.271 gallons to fill is 42.7 mpg. I should get cleaner numbers with the ultragauge installed. It's not far from the straight line, 55.5mph/78.5mph * 63.9mpg= 45.1 mpg
