ScanguageII Calibration

what is the best way to calibrate the percentage offset? none of the pumps in my area are consistent compared to my scangauge so i don't know where the offset should be set to. i tried by using the same pump everytime but today it was off by just over a gallon. any ideas?

Are you sure the pump is incorrect and not the ScanGauge?

In my experience the ScanGauge is certainly not infallible, especially in the first fill ups.

i use the same pump at the same gas station every time i fill up, sometimes when i fill up the SG is within 1 or 2 tenths of a gallon, other times it's off by a full gallon or more. i'm thinking i need to take a 2.5 gallon gas can and fill it to the full mark and see what the pump says i put into it to find out if the pump is accurate

Good idea. There's a couple petrol stations near me that compete on price and are always cheaper than the next nearest competitor. I wonder how much that competitive pricing is down to inaccurate pumps? An experiment beckons...

if i didn't have an in-tank fuel pump i would just run the tank dry, then i would know exactly how much fuel i used

...unfortunately, even then you really wouldn't know how much fuel had been used until you refilled the totally empty tank...and then the exact answer would rely upon where you "stopped" filling the tank, ie: (1) to the first "click," (2) at the second "click," or (3) when the gas reached the lip of the opening, etc..

so i guess i'm SOL and JWF then, i guess i'll just run the tank down below a quarter and use the 2.5 gallon gas can to find the accurate pump, adding 2.5 until i find a pump that is accurate and finish filling to the first click
