Scuderi Cycle rises from it's tomb

Not really but sorta.

Jeremiah Donut is insufferable, but the proposed design is intriguing.

It's like the Scuderi cycle except with two stages of compression and two stages of power strokes. Minus the compressed air hybrid capability of the Scuderi cycle.

Once again they show an inline four, where I think a boxer four would allow more flexibility in resizing cylinders during the development process. That proprietary I-4 is what Scuderi's heirs squandered their opportunity on.

Nowadays that 3-cyl engines are becoming prevalent in some countries where a 4-cyl used to be the rule, makes me wonder if the Scuderi split-cycle could ever be adapted to an engine with an uneven amount of cylinders.

This [re]design uses a fourth cylinder to scavenge additional energy from the third cylinder's exhaust. If the recovered energy is less than the frictional loses (and other costs) you might break even.
