Side skirting question...

Hi all, first time post.
I have recently purchased a 2007 Kia Rondo. I bought it under the assumption it was pretty good on fuel based on my father in laws 2014 Rondo...I was very wrong.
He has a 1.8...I have a 2.4L engine.
Anyway so no I am looking at ways to improve mileage without drawing too much attention to myself driving down the road.
I have replaced the air filter with a new one (as the one that was in it was pretty dirty) and I have new spark plugs ordered.
What was the question again?
Oh yes...I am considering doing the lawn edging front dam on the front and using as side skirting along the sides.
Will this make any measurable difference?
Also I was surprised that side skirts were not mentioned in the 65+ Efficiency Mods section.
Hoping to be buying a Scangauge soon as well.
Considering blocking off the air inlet for the tranny cooler as well.

Do you not need tranny cooling?
Side skirts are used to keep air from spilling under the car from the sides, lessening ground effects. Not sure if keeping a partial vacuum under the car helps anything but cornering. Anything to help the airflow reconnect behind the car will help (boat tailing, diffusers under the rear etc)

Might try the old trick of a golf ball under the accelerator pedal, (if you can live with slower acceleration and passing.)

Do you want your trans to fail? Don’t block it’s cooler... the lawn edging air dam is a pretty effective mod, and side skirts are also fairly effective... look also into making wheel spats and removing a roof rack if you have one...

Driving style makes more of a difference than anything else, as high as my average mpg is if I use the freeway and go 75mph, I’d only average 36mpg or so...

I have heard that unless you are towing or running AC through a very hot climate that it is safe...with monitoring. I was a little suspicious too.

Good idea. I currently keep my shifting (automatic) at or below 2,000 rpm and try my best to keep my rpm's from going over 2,000 / 2,100.
Can hardly wait until I get a SG installed.

I disagree with physical blocking of the pedal; you may need full throttle and not have it available... however you’re in the right track...
