Smooth Wheel Covers?

I put two pizza pans on 2 of my wheels (that is all I had at the time) one feel off and then after a few weeks I took off the other and my rim was covered in brake dust. I was wondering what people who had pans did about the brake dust for theirs or if they just left them covered?
