I'd say about as much havoc as a newspaper, honestly. I don't see it being too much of a problem - just remember to go back and pick it up if you can find it. No sense in littering.

Yar, that's what I did when I lost my cap. The "squiggly" cars signaled to me what happened. I took note of the next offramp and came back the next day (I lost it at night). It was white so it was easy to find off the side of the road. Bent up like a taco shell. I still have it on my wall as a reminder of my vanity (didn't get it for aero, got it for looks).

Yeah, I'm also lazy, so it's easier to go pick up the one that came off rather than cutting out a new one
I can also now report that they've easily survived 100 miles in mild to heavy rain and at least two big puddles on the passenger side.

I'm not familiar with that exact material you said you used to make your caps out of. Is it some kind of light weight plastic? If so I would be on the look-out for the wind blowing them off maybe. But it sounds as if all is going well for you. Are you still getting the 1 1/2 to 2 MPG increase? Because that seems really good.

It's coroplast, made exactly like a corrugated box except it's plastic. They make signs out of them. Sign shops have them in big sheets but a sign shop might not have the best price for raw coroplast. After elections, ecomodders like to scavenge leftover coroplast campaign signs. Reduce REUSE and Recycle.

It is a corrugated plastic, like a plastic cardboard. I doubt the 1-2mpg increase is accurate, all four are generally 1 to 1.5 mpg.

The 1.5 mpg was my first impression but I haven't driven my usual route very much yet, so that's all it is so far (however keep in mind that my OZ rims are pretty bad aero-wise, so I'll probably see a nicer gain than if you already have decently smooth wheels). If I can find the time, I'll do some A-B-A testing after I get the covers for the front wheels done and see what numbers I get.

Okey doke.
Thanks for the info. Let us know how all 4 wheels work for ya, and maybe post a pic of how you get the valve stems fitted later, eh? I was telling my friends about your project and for some reason they can not get a grip as to why smooth surfaces on a car result in better MPG. haha- But I can see the logic.
Cheers.

I like the Reduce and Reuse parts... not so much the Recycle, because it seems like a band-aid for wasteful people to stick to their wasteful ways, and still call it "OK".
