He claimed some wild (to me) MPG improvement, but I do think it is effective.

I believe that claim more than "I tore off the fuel efficiency improving active grill shutter and my MPG went through the roof".

That seems very reasonable, considering the bedcover.
It resembles member 'bondo' ( Brett Herndon)'s patented Aerolid aeroshell, which, for the 2012, Ford F-150, measured a delta- Cd 0.067 drag reduction in the wind tunnel.
Member 'AeroStealth' had both the Aerolid and Aerotail ( boat-tail ) on his 2014 F-150 EcoBoost, 4X4, 6'-bed pickup, giving Cd 0.31.

It's easier to get a 50% improvement at the low end of the scale.
