Stay safe out there.

I read these types of stories on the news every day "18 year old Tampa boy killed on Bicycle" "Man killed in car-bike collision."

So after reading that every day, it takes a little something "special" to get to me.
Well, today's my lucky day.

Turns out a drunk driver in Texas fell asleep at the wheel of his Ford LTD and plowed head-on into a peloton of cyclists. And all of this went down as a city official was (for some reason) snapping photos.

Resulting in:

So stay safe out there folks, and try to keep from bouncing off of any windshields.

This is so sad. Here's a link to the story. Not much more then what Andrew reported.

AndrewJ -

When my friend biked across the USA, maybe 3 or 4 people were killed on the trip. Most of the time it was the truckers running them off the road. I think the last two were killed within hours of reaching Washington D.C.

It is sad, and also infuriating. If the penalty for hurting someone while driving drunk were more *permanent* , then this kind of thing would happen less often. Or at least only once per drunk.

Unfortunately this happens all too often. Even where I live, in a semi-rural suburban area, I was on a ride with my group one Saturday morning and while turning onto a heavy traffic road one of the guys in the head of the group slipped on some sand that we didn't see and caused a chain reaction of 4 more bikes following him to go over and slid across traffic on a 4 lane road. Thankfully the traffic light was just turning green so no cars were coming yet and they actually were nice enough to wait a minute till we cleared the road to continue on. I could only imagine what would have happened if the light had changed just a few moments earlier.

That's insane. Instant iconic photo for cyclists everywhere.
