Mistubishi driving the i-MiEV across Canada

Mitsubishi is doing a cross-Canada publicity tour in the i MiEV (plus who knows how many support vehicles ).

Their route shows them going through my town this week, so I'm trying to find out more.

Mitsubishi | The i-MiEV Clean Across Canada Tour

The thing goes about 120 km on a charge, so if they're actually driving it, I can offer them a 20A dryer outlet, which happens to be about 100 km from their previous announced stop.

A ForkenSwift / i-MiEV photo would be fun

Found a few more things about their trip... they're travelling with an RV and either one other vehicle or trailer (containing a 2nd i-MiEV, mostly for display at events along the way) which means they could be looking for RV camping sites (240v / 50A service) for fast recharges.

OR they've got a genset in the back and they're charging en route.

---

Interestingly, the EV club from the University of British Columbia just left the west coast in a converted, classic Beetle loaded with lithium, and they plan to cross the country in 2 weeks. If so, they'll be the first EV to cross the country. It's a race!

Range of their car: 300 km (~200 mi) @ 100 km/h (~60 mph) according to their site.

I checked out their blog. It looks like they're driving two iMievs and one RV cross country, and stopping at Mitsubishi dealerships along the way. Darin, do you happen to have TWO dryer outlets to offer them?

Canada's an awfully big country to cross in an EV. It'll take about 50 recharges if they get 120km per charge. That would be 50 days with a 110V * 15A charger - a time that is approachable by a cyclist. They'd better not be charging it off the RV, which would be cheating.

I'd like to know how fast they're driving the cars. Lower speeds mean going farther between charges, so they'd probably make better time that way.

In three days, they drove 1000km from Halifax to Quebec. That's 8 or 9 charges.

Btw, if you do get to take that photo, you might be surprised to find the Forkenswift is bigger than the iMiev.

Well, you beat me to it.

Nice find on the UBC car. I'm jealous - I wish my university had an EV club!

I was thinking if you had an electric streamliner with 400-600mi per charge, it would be a car you could very realistically take cross-country, not just for setting records but for vacations as well.
