I've been searching for a lower 6th gear for my '06 Corolla XRS to no avail. Anyone know where I might find one to fit the Toyota C64 6-speed tranny?

(Same basic tranny used in the Celica GTS, Matrix/Vibe GTS, as well as US Lotus Elise, Exige)

Thanks in advance!

There is nothing readily available as far as I know. It would have to be custom.

I am pretty sure that the 6th gear (and all others) in:
C60
3.166 2.050 1.481 1.166 0.916 0.725

are able to fit up.

Hope that helps.
You may want to find a C60 transmission in a junkyard

You probably want to try to find the transmission for the 2002 Celica with the 180Hp engine (GTS) whereas you have the transmission found in the 140HP(GT) version. Check out the specs on this webpage

Jeez, I feel like I'm doing all the footwork...

Thanks for attempting to help...

You are correct, the '06 Corolla XRS (which is what I drive) has the exact same Yamaha-designed 2zz-ge engine and the exact same C60 6-speed tranny as the Celica GTS.

I've researched the "easy" swaps ad nauseum. If the Celica/Matrix/Vibe 180 bhp GTS models had had more favorable gearing- I would have swapped for one of those long ago.

So it looks like I need a custom 6th gear? I need something taller than the 0.725 6th gear that comes stock in my C60 tranny.

Again: Who? Where? How much?

Thanks in advance.

Do a search here for 5th gear swap. There was a nice thread on someone who did it on a ZX2.

Your transmission has the 0.815 6th gear I believe, you may wish to attempt to find the C60 transmission that I suggested to get the 0.725 6th I am talking about.

If you are dead set on getting a custom sixth gear, try and get into contact with Doug Heffron, creator of the XFi "Areo Car". He made a taller fifth gear for his metro to get 75mpg on the highway. Check out this article for more details.

Hope that clarifies that even further.

Edit: Here is the quote from metrompg.com:

MetroMPG.com: The newspaper article mentions changes to the transmission - can you explain that in a bit more detail?

Doug Heffron: The transmission was the hardest part. 1 found a way to change the 5th gear ratio. I made the gears myself on my lathe. A very proud moment for me. The local machine shops wanted $2,500.00 for 2 gears.

@ Funny-

Wikipedia confused me as well. My 2006 US Corolla XRS came with the C60 with a 0.725 6th gear. I looked it up online to be sure. I also re-verified with both my tachometer and scan gauge on the highway:
60mph:~2700 +/- rpm
70mph:~3150 +/- rpm

If my car had the C64 tranny- the 0.815 6th gear would yield
60mph:~3045 rpm
70mph:~3553 rpm

Since my rpms are no where near that high, I must conclude that either my tach and scangauge are way off and I have a C64 tranny- or Wikipedia is incorrect and I have a C60 tranny. Which is it? Thoughts?

If I do have a C60 tranny, then I suppose my only option is to go with a custom 6th gear in the <0.659 range.

Thanks in advance.

There is a gearbox which will work for your Corrolla and you can have ANY ratio you want in ANY gear 5 or 6 speed and all gears have interchangable ratios, and straight cut so they even use less power. There you are, all you need to do is buy the gearbox.
