My 1996 GA SE, 2.4L 5-speed, two door has been out of commission for a while. First, I was driving to work, pulled off the interstate, did a bit of engine braking up to the light.. and the exhaust connection popped off just ahead of the catalytic converter. Thankfully, it was dragging from the engine bay, and not at risk of "pole vaulting". Fixed that, and then a couple weeks later I noticed the water temp skyrocketing. If I need to get it somewhere, I can rev the hell out of it and get the thermostat to open, but who wants to continuously risk that?

So, been putting off replacing the thermostat because I don't have a garage and I hate working in a parking lot. The reason I purchased the car was for highway trips, but my girlfriend got a 2012 Fusion last year so I haven't even driven my GA in a long while.

Once I get it all squared away, I'll join the Pontiac team and contribute. I have no problems getting 30+ MPG in town.

Go ahead and join now. Your 90 day average will still help out as there are a few (myself included) that have less than 32 mpg averages. Even if it wouldn't it's not the end of the world.

I was wondering if I should refill now and get the low numbers out of the way, or wait until it gets down under a quarter tank (where I usually fill up), so as to not drive our average even lower.

I would suggest waiting since data from a short full isn't reliable, better off with lower numbers than getting good ones from a fill that doesn't tell the whole story.

Anything new?

I am looking around at suspension currently. I wish I could get a nice set of coilovers so I have the option of lowering for the extra mpg but also can keep stock height when I need it. They're just so expensive, I did find a set by dropzone for $250 though, I'm just not sure if they're any good.

I've been taking the Sunfire lately because the headlight is out on my bike. Today was my best commute in so far, 37.7 mpg. Still a ways off from 40 mpg. I wonder if I'll ever hit it. The tank average is right around 33 I think, and the SG reads a little low.
