Terrible mpg's = new interest in old ideas.

I haven't been posting on here much lately as of cold weather and pretty much giving up on getting high mpg.

Driving to school (5 mile round trip) has been killing my gas tank. Just went from 36 mpg to 34 in 2 days for about 15 miles(says scanguage).

So I want to install block heater or whichever heater.

This is cheapest and "easiest" to install says auto parts.

I'm not so sure how easy that will be. Any tips?

Also, going to finish keman intake mod, just about an 8 inch pvc pipe is all i need.

Going to try installing the shift kit. 10 ohms of resistance. Maybe this will help me get into 5th gear just that little bit faster. It kicks in at about 43 cold and 40 hot. So if it could shift it at about 40. I think I'd be saving lots of gas as I wouldn't need to push it to shift.

Also, Just realized shortening my belt would make removing AC very easy. But dad says bad idea as no defrost? Input?

Also, one tire keeps leaking air and hardly stays 30 psi. Ugh.

The heater should be easy to install as you just have to splice it into a radiator line. Maybe someone else here can provide specifics.

Having no A/C in winter is no problem. My first car didn't have A/C at all and I never thought twice about it.

Take your car to a local tire place and see if they can plug it. Its a very cheap fix (should be under $20).

Yeah, probably going to do that in a few weeks when I get back from vacation.

What about not being able to use defrost?

Also, what about just using fix a flat?

Defrost still works fine, just not quite as fast. Like I said, I never had a problem with my car that didn't have A/C.

I avoid fix a flat as I hear its horrible when it comes time to change tires.

In my current xB, and the Subaru I previously had, I disabled the switch that turns on AC when the defroster is on (it's inside the HVAC control panel in at least thost two cars). Running the AC for that just seems like a good way to waste fuel. The truck I had previously (a 95 bare-bones S10) didn't even have AC, so that's just as well-- it never gave me any problems.

I worked at a tire shop for a while. Fix a flat is worthless. If it worked you would never see tires with fix a flat in it, but no, they always end up at the shop anyway.

well just did two other zx2 "mods".

not so sure on them.

finally got the knock sensor disconnected. it was just a little clip on the underside that had to be pushed. -____- i've spent a good hour trying to get that out before. took a second once i realized that.

then i installed a shift kit. 10 ohm resistor and switch. not so sure on differences with that either.

i honestly can't really tell a difference with both of those. it's supposed to be shifting smoother. I guess somewhat. I don't feel it as much?

Hi,

The speed of defogging (moisture on the inside) is what goes quicker with A/C. Melting frost on the outside is much faster without A/C as this puts more heat on the glass and melts the stuff on the outside. This is the only way to go in an ice storm!

Besides, you'll get much better FE without the A/C.

Yep. I'm just not sure if I am capable of swapping belts myself and all that. Haha. I wish I could find a guide on pulling the AC too (-50lbs!). What really sucks is I that I don't have a good way to get my car up in the air any. Oh well. I will just try to avoid using defrost for now.
