TexasCotton — I understand your concern. (If not your syntax and punctuation. )
How long do you think the CCP can last (not a political question)? Tesla is unique in China as the only foreign business with 0% local investment.
They will be well positioned under a new regime. Tesla uses robots instead of hand labor anyway, and they are replacing [some of] the robots with casting machines.

Slavery is a boat-anchor on society, holding everything back. Everybody loses.
And obsolete since the invention of the steam engine and AC induction motor. And adversarial generative AI.

Too many people voluntarily put themselves into slavery because of addiction; drugs, sex, alcohol, fossil fuel...

Plenty of people would benefit from slavery, which is why there's so many eager for Communism. My cousin would probably still be alive today if only he were subject to authoritarian rule rather than free to live how he sees fit. If he had any sense, he'd have asked for help in structuring his life and making important decisions, but he had none.

The Romans were on the cusp of the industrial age but slaves appeared to be cheaper than machinery.

The Egyptians had good enough food to consider voluntarily going back to slavery.

Slavery is a relative thing except on the extremes: total possession or total anarchy. Indeed, many of our limitations are both voluntary and beneficial.

That's why I don't find it useful to frame slavery as entirely bad, or always bad. You've got to consider what is lost and what is gained. It is a spectrum as you point out.
My child is as much a slave as anyone who has ever been a slave. Every aspect of her life is dictated by my wife and me. She loses all autonomy in exchange for living to adulthood and gaining valuable skills. This is necessary because she doesn't have the developmental ability to make those decisions for herself.
Then the question becomes, which adults don't have sufficient faculties to act autonomously. Taken further, some authoritarian states seize control of certain liberties from the citizens, ostensibly because as a whole they regard the people incapable of wielding those liberties appropriately.
