No way was the Tesla floating. The cars ahead weren't in too deep of water, and none of them should have had issues. Air intakes are high on most vehicles, and the only way to flood it in that shallow of water is to carry too much speed while entering, which pushes water up into the engine bay where the intake is.
Had they eased into the water, everyone would be fine. In fact, most of them could probably start up again and continue driving once the soaked air filter is removed, assuming they didn't pull so much water into the engine to cause hydro-lock.
