Thanks for keeping your eyes open, folks (schpammers!)

We do appreciate it when members let us know about obvious spam attempts via the forum. digitaldissent caught the latest one, schultzy has been a reliable sentry as well.

(There have been others, sorry if I don't mention you - it's like my Academy Award speech, and I'm nervous and only have so much time before the music comes up and cuts me off...)

The dead giveaways are usually the username (watergas, nokiaphones, 23092r8rkaf, etc.) and the fact that it's their first post.

There's actually a little icon you can click to "Report a post" in the column below the username. Every post has one:

Click that and we automatically get notified about the offending thread & user, with helpful links to deal with it.

So, thanks again, people, for helping to take out the trash, and keeping our playground clean!

Cool I didn't know about the button. I accidentally responded to a spam post without realizing, sorry. You're doing a great job unspamming.

No worries, ankit.

Ben: you should post the subtitles version. For the non-Danish EcoModders.

Dealing with spammers is rough. I used to have a very popular gaming website ( http://www.planetetf.com ) and monitoring the old forums took me and 3 of my staff to keep the SpamBots under control. We would literally get 30-40 registrations a day back in 2006 and only 5 would be actual (human) members.

We have a smiley deficit? We need to get on that!

---

Johnny: the "captcha" image verification has really cut back on the bots doing fake registrations. We had it turned off for a few days recently, and I was sure we saw a few more spammer registrations than usual. Doesn't prove anything, but there you go.
