Sounds like normal operation to me. The fan shouldn't kick on until you're over 200F.

I have an idea: affix a playing card to the shroud such that the fan blades hit it, like we used to do on our bikes.

Wouldn't the power required to move the playing card and produce sound waves reduce your gas mileage?

Post #69 in my Vibe thread is where I showed how I wired up my fan-indicating LED. Slow_S10 is right, getting the wires through the firewall is the tough part. Drilling a hole in a firewall makes me itchy just thinking about it, so I jammed it through with an existing wire bundle. I have an SGII as well, but it's nice having the LED too. If nothing else, it reminds you that the darn fan runs constantly when you select defrost, due to the AC kicking on to dehumidify the air.
