Tiny Tesla House

Tesla creates a ‘tiny house’ to feature its energy products

Quote:
Here are a few specs that the company listed:
  • Weight – 2 tonnes
  • Dimensions – 6m x 2.2m x 4m
  • Solar generation – 2kW PV system of 6 panels
  • Solar storage – 1 x Tesla Powerwall
  • Exterior – Clad in locally sourced, chemical-free, sustainable timber
Of course, any random Ecomodderer will see the massive failure: It will be an energy nosebleed for the tow vehicle.

I think it needs construction like a U-Haul trailer or an Airstream, with a pop-top like a Dormobile camper

Then always park with the hinge side to the South. If it has the new Tesla glass roof tiles, you can't even see them.

That would be a good idea, providing a quick accomodation for eventual guests.

If it's actually generating 2kw from solar, and you used that power to offset moving it....and didn't move it too far in one go...it wouldn't cost ya a dime extra to move it!

Considering that a trailer is usually more aerodynamic, making a mobile house doesn't make so much sense at all (except for eventual bureaucratic reasons). But anyway, I'm sure some features of it could be applied successfully to either a trailer or a more conventional house.

The dimensions are equal to a 1U shipping container plus ground clearance. If the solar panels were double stacked and deployable via a 4-bar arrangement; that would double the available area. And act as a carport.

The pop-up was to be for solar orientation. It could have triangular end windows instead of canvas.

I'd rather not use canvas anyway.

A lot of people would place this structure long term "duration of a job lets say" so its net loss being towed is easily off set vs living in inefficient apartments or renting a house. I would hire a tractor dead heading home to hull it if it going long distances.

  • The Tesla could move more than the trailer
  • The trailer might move more than the Tesla [unlikely]
  • The trailer might be a garage for the Tesla, that could move by railroad
  • The Tesla might seldom leave it's garage which is attached by microgrid umbilical to a McMansion

Apart from the trailer moving more than the Tesla, which seems in fact very unlikely, the other possibilities seem viable.

Well, I was looking for a thread to post Telsa news and found this from 2018. I'd forgotten this!

The four bullet points were intended to be exhaustive. I think you could make an Airstream [/CargoSpeed] shape from sustainable wood. Stitch-and-glue boat hull technique.
_______________

Anywho, the things that have me fascinated are Tesla's Gigafactories. The drone overflights on Youtube a good background wallpaper for your daily routine.
  • Giga Shanghai went from a green field to rolling out finished production in 9 months IIRC (It's likely underwater at the moment)
  • Giga Nevada uses steel framing and I've learned from this PDF about Buckling Restrained Braced Frames (BRBFs) and sacrificial slotted plates (Krawinkler Fuses or KFs).
  • Giga Berlin the cleared the land, brought in a railway and counterbalance cranes, and are setting out the 60-70ft columns with integrated footings and bridging them with trusses. The walls are H-columns with horizontal panels dropped into the slot from the top.
  • Giga Austin is being reclaimed from a swamp. In the speeded-up drone shots the traffic jams of Catepillar scrapers look like ants.
Bucky Fuller talked about the tools that make the tools that make the thing, and I hear Elon Musk has said the same thing.
