Tire change. Am I crazy?

I was reminded again today the importance of good tires. On the way to the airport this morning a guy pulled out from a side street with no warning directly into my path while I was driving 55 mph. I had to brake HARD and then swerve to miss him. Missed the back of his car by a few inches. With crappy low grip tires I would have either boned him or spin out - maybe into the oncoming lanes of traffic.

This is the second time tires have saved my bacon.
