The Tyre Extinguishers…

The Tyre Extinguishers…

https://www.theguardian.com/environm...climate-crisis

Quote:
The Tyre Extinguishers, as they call themselves, furtively hand around bags of lentils ahead of their raid (the legumes are jammed into a tire valve to release its air slowly overnight) and size up their quarry.
Quote:
One of the group kneels down, unscrews the tire valve cap, stuffs a lentil inside and puts the cap back on. The tire immediately lets out a startled “pfft” noise, a leaflet is slapped on to the windshield and the group melts back into the night.
Quote:
The leaflet, complete with a Ghostbusters-style picture of a crossed-out SUV, states the vast amounts of planet-heating emissions generated by the vehicles are “nails in the coffin of our climate”, adding: “You’ll be angry, but don’t take it personally. It’s not you, it’s your car.”
Quote:
“It is like a public shaming,” said Dana Fisher, a sociologist at the University of Maryland who has researched environmental protests since the 1990s. “The target of public shaming is very unlikely to change their opinion from the shaming, so the question is, what’s the point? It’s an innovative, simple tactic to take the air out of someone’s tires, it’s not harmful, it’s just annoying. It’s like the training wheels to something confrontational.”

The confrontation they imagine, may not be the confrontation they get…

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes…

Once I lane changed to the left and into the left turn lane to make a left turn. The pickemuptruck behind me must have thougth I cut him off.

When I came out of the store I didn't see until I tried to drive away that the two valve stems on the far side of the car had been nipped off with a side cutter.

Don't need a side cutter if they are rubber stems, just a yank at a sharp bend angle. Which is why I only run steel stems (but not from pissing people off)

... some folks might be thinking to jam something other than lentils into their valve.

The thing is, the fella probably drove off even angrier than before cutting the stems, so it did him no good either. This is why things escalate, because anger cannot be cured by lashing out.

The above story is a prelude to more agressive vandalism. Only fortunate thing is it sounds like a group of women, and they tend not to take vandalism to the extremes men would.

A pack of spiteful women in a black lifted pickup? I suppose it's possible.

I had to walk home for a second spare. I didn't feel anything but tired.

Not cool, man, not cool.

If I were anything, I’d want to be that, but better. Fortunately I am something, and I could be better. Gives me something to do.

Channel the Vice President? I read that in her voice.

This is Ecomodder; why aren't we A-B testing whether putting a Lentil bean under the valve cap will case any pressure loss.

No idea where I was going with that other than the "not cool" statement. How do I tell if I had a stroke?

I had a beer on an empty stomach because the restaurant didn't take my food order when I listed what I wanted. So I'll blame it on being tired, hungry, and boozy.

BTW, that's one problem of being prepared to order, that it throws the employees off their script and ends up slowing everything down or messing it up.

I once ordered "a BigMac, Large fri, to go".
The kid repeated back "I got a BigMac, anything else".
I said "yes, the large fri"
"A BigMac, a large fri, is that for here or to go"?

It should be illegal to pay that kid minimum wage.

I view some of my own past comments similarly.

The Tyre Extinguishers sounds like a burn-out crowd.
