Tom Hanks.. drives an electric car.

I pulled this off of his myspace page (yes he has a myspace page). Pretty smart and interesting guy. Also a great actor. he's got some humor when making these vids.

Vid 1 - EBOX
Vid 2 - Tom Hank's Electric car part 1
Vid 3 - Tom Hank's Electric car part 2

MySpace Video My Electric Car - Part 2 by Tom Hanks

And he actually drives these things too. and if he needs to go farther than 100 or so miles, then he takes his hybrids.

I'm sure that most people here could go way over 120 miles per charge.

Wow.

Wow.

The first video reminded me of the situational/spacial awareness thread that's going around now, though... since he kept watching the camera for longer than he'd peek at the road, ya know?

oh, and if a moderator could maybe embed the vids so that you don't have to click on the links to watch them, that'd be great.

I enjoyed how he didn't watch the road much at all either. and Driver X

what other Famous people ACTUALLY drive a hybrid/EV other than as a publicity stunt? I know people have been buying prius's just so they can "look" like they care, but the odometer says something like 6000 miles (at most) For one that they've had for maybe 2 or 3 years?

^^^^ 6K miles is actually quite alot for people who never drive themselves anywhere, and are never at their personal home for extended periods of time.

Movie stars aren't the people we need to start driving EV's and hybrids, but due to commonality in the US, they're the necessary factor.

Personally, I could care less about Movie stars... I think most of them are ridiculous, as pose as nothing but a shame to our culture. Some are OK. Few are actually "good people" in their every day lives. (With the cameras off.)

But, because of the sense of "whos who" in this country, Americans look to their ridiculous idols to learn "how to live". SO, that said, movie stars buying hybrids gets better publicity, even if it is just a joke for them.

Well I think of it in this way.

the Ebox conversion costs 55 thousand dollars. No sensible person with the average salary would go out and spend 55 thousand dollars for the conversion.

But if no one will buy the cars, then how are we supposed to get funding for research when no one can afford to buy them and not take a risk.

if we have people like Hanks who are willing to take the risk (mostly because they don't take a loss of money if they have problems with the car) and will actually drive the car when new risky technology like this comes out, so be it.

I just don't like the ones that buy the car and let it sit for 3 or 4 years, and drive it when they have to go out in public so people will see them driving an "earthfriendly" vehicle.

55k for an EV Xb? Ridiculous. Period.

I can see your PointofView though, DifferentPointofView. (Sorry, pun definitely intended.)

Eh, its alright. I had it coming

Hopefully the prices on these things will drop considerably. kinda like HD tv's or DVD players have in the last 8 years. And get more reliable.

Wally world had a 32" LCD HDTV for like $365 last week... which is great, considering the recent $700 price tag for a similar model.

Too bad I'm on unemployment. I can't even consider that it will save me money, b/c we don't pay the electric bill here.
