No question it can be done on the cheap, if you willing to make some compromises for cost, like brushed DC motors, and pB-A batteries. But there is word of difference between these two vehicles. Just look at the specs:

How come they say it's 120 to 150 miles per charge, and Tom Hanks (who drives one) says its 100-120? Maybe he does a lot of fast driving. I don't know. By the way, in my conversion, I got some AGM Lead Acid batteries that can be recharged in like 25-30 minutes if I had such a charger, which I don't.

I guess it's annoying to me when millionaires show what can be done to help protect the environment, but it is completely unrealistic to 99% of the world's population. Why not show what can be done by maybe 20% of the world instead?
