Toyota Avensis 2.0 Auto Success!!2nd tank added 14/08/10

Hi,

Just completed by Baseline tank in My borrowed 1997 2.0 Toyota Avensis Auto..

Published EU figures are 31mpg UK and 25.73 US (Calculated as could not find EPA figures for that model- I dont know if you got the Avensis over there

and after 418.8 miles using 51.73 litres at £1.179/l (total cost £61) my MPG came back at

36.77mpg UK (118% of UK)

30.52mpg US (118% of US)

I have NOT been using any advanced techniques- only made sure the tyres were at recommended PSI (32)

I've just retopped the tank (to first Click and from the same pump)

so going to try coasting (engine at idle) to junctions- I have sevveral sections of my commute that should allow long coasts..

Fingers Crossed!

Second tank details further down thread

Congrats. I look forward to seeing what you can do with this car. Can you post up the specs on it? We do not have it over here in the US.

Why haven't you started a mileage log here on EM yet?

I believe the Scion TC is based on a newer generation Avensis.

figured out some mpg targets for me..Based on published figure of 31mpg

125% is 38.75mpg

150% is 46.5mpg

I reckon i should be able to get somewhere near them without too much trouble

What do folks with similar sized engine and gearbox combo's get?

Thanks

Neil

Avensis specs here

Toyota Avensis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think the engine is shared with US models but it was based on the earlier Carina E which was a Europe only model - hence the E.

I think you may be onto something there regarding the Carina- It does drive like an absolute boat, but you cant argue with a Cd of 0.28.

I'm 140 miles into the second tank and its looking promising.. The tank seems to drop slowly for the first half, then disappear for the lower half.. I'm aiming for 300 to the half way mark.

i'm going to be returning the car to my father today as i'm off on holiday from tuesday..

I'm hoping i've done enough to see an improvement but that depends on how and how far the old boy drives it..

Lets hope its not too hard!

anyway i'm off driving round europe in a bmw 320d..here's to 55+mpg all day long:-)

I've got the car back now, and have passed the previous 418.8 with approx 1/8th of a tank left- the P&G with engine on seems to work a treat..

Should hopefully be in a position to see what MPG I've achieved within the next day ot two..

Then I'll try to figure out a fuel log...

2nd tank data in..

51.75l of fuel for 456.6miles

I make that out to be approx 40.1mpg uk for those accross the pond, its circa 33.77mpg us.

I'll update my fuel log once back infront of a pc.
