Toyota Coaster Hybrid Bus

Experiments and driving of 1999Prius NHW10, and 2004 Prius NHW20 ( gen 1 or0 and gen2 or 3). using a trailerrunning a gassifier , has lead to the best vehicle to utilize this would be a series hybrid .
The search for this landed a Toyota Coaster Hybrid bus, HZB 50.
After many months, this has now been adapted to be ideal for the trailer gassifier, or a rear frame mounted gassifier.
The quest has reached a milestone in the now selectable by the driver of EV mode only for 80km range, and IC for extending the range during driving, or when parked.

Information on the HBZ 50 has been difficult to find, i.e. communication with Toyota had a reply that "no workshop repair manual was produced" and not intended for public use.
If any one has any information about these Hybids, I would be keen to hear.

Present daily use is of 25Kwh for 75km, and 2.5 L petrol for running comfort of the airconditioner that is only available with the IC running. It was a hot day, and used sparingly, as this is now selectable fuel consumption.

Rather neat to have oil fired air conditioning, and will be Great to have it woodfired from the trailer. It wil be a real buzz to be Burning blocks of wood to keep cool, as well as using to reduce electrical utility usage.

I'd never heard of it before.

Wikipedia entry: Toyota Coaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
In August 1997, Toyota "Coaster Hybrid EV" minibus was launched, ahead of Prius. The Coaster Hybrid, according to Toyota, became its first production hybrid vehicle.[3] Production of the Coaster Hybrid continued until 2007.

Yes,
Exactly like that, different colour, I was trying to put a picture of it on the site, but had not succeeded.
When the trailer is behind it, I will try again,
Thanks

They used to be very popular around South America (except Brazil where Toyota had an agreement with Mercedes-Benz), but I have never seen a hybrid one. Regarding the air conditioner, you can replace its engine-driven compressor with a 12-volt Danfoss compressor.
