I could see how they are lower drag, instead of a brick wall like most radiator grills, it is swept back slightly. But where does the air exit?
They're behind the front tires, the 'gill' outlets.John Shinella's team measured a drag increase with them at the Lockheed Marietta Tunnel. They didn't add significant drag, but were nowhere close to what Morelli came up with. And to be fair,Morelli had a lot of design latitude.

Or as they say in Texas ... "All HAT, NO CATTLE!"

There was a NYTimes article sometime ago about how auto "stylists" were making larger grills as an "aggressive look" which all the the EDs out there need. Note: "ED" as in Erectile Dysfunction

ED

Also,autospontaneoustesticularatrophobia and bubblephobia.
Toyota was forced to ruin the nose of their 2014 Tundra because males interviewed at clinics thought the sheetmetal and grille was too "bubbly" looking.
