Toyota Will Offer a Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle by 2010

DETROIT — The Toyota Motor Corporation, which leads the world’s automakers in sales of hybrid-electric vehicles, announced Sunday night that it would build its first plug-in hybrid by 2010.
The move puts Toyota in direct competition with General Motors, which has announced plans to sell its own plug-in hybrid vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt, sometime around 2010.
We should already have plug-in hybrids on the market. They were ready years ago. There really isn't an excuse not to have it on all the hybrids today. Except maybe that it would cut into their profits some when people stopped running the ICE all together and needed fewer replacement parts.

that's right. just like the only reason EV's aren't in mass production in the US is because they don't want to cut profit margins when it comes to the sale of maintenance parts.
