transmission swap?
can anybody give me advise on this?
This is my question at bottom in bold???
[I]I just inherited a 2006 Sportage EX V6 FWD from my daughter. It is in GREAT condition and I plan on driving it for awhile.
I just put 273,000 on a 2002 Infiniti Q45 Sport.
I am interested in getting better mileage.
I am on ecomodder.com and increased the mpg on the Q45 from 22mpg on the road to 30mpg.
The Q45 had a 2.76 rear ratio and that helped w/ the 5 speed auto w/ od.
Does anyone know if Kia made a 5 speed automatic transmission that would bolt into the 2.7V6?
I realize that a standard would be optimal, but I want to keep the automatic. (For simplicity)

The transmission used in the kia is an F4A42-2 and it only came in 4 forward gears and one reverse. It was not changed until the new sportage was released. With this change came a new transmission.
The F4A42-2 is used in a number of kia and hyundai vehicles, all 4 speed. Interestingly though, the final drive ratio from the optima (3.770) is less than the Kia (4.042 for FWD and 4.407 for 4WD). In my father-in-law's Optima, he sits on 2000rpm at 100kmh whereas I sit on 2500rpm at 100 kph (4WD for me).
You could swap these transmissions and thus have lower engine rpm for a higher speed, but I am not sure how the transmission control module will like it being a different final drive ratio
