Use incognito mode for search that you don't want showing up in your search ads or history, looking at girly sites(Oprah etc), looking up cat videos(if you live with a dog person), and perusing advanced magnetic/electric research that might get you a call from some unsavory types. Also good for determining if your friend's glee club is actually a terrorist organization.

Just remember that if you close the tab of that obscure but hilarious cat video, it'll disappear into the void. You can't reopen it with ctrl + shift + T. Although if you use a router it will still keep logs of your activity. I ain't afraid of no ghosts.

I have a gutted laptop with a tower heatsink zip-tied onto it running pfsense. Current uptime: 129 days, 18:43. It draws very little power at idle (can't turn it off since there is no power button so I have to short out 2 pins on a 24 pin header in order to turn it back on, the header is on the side of the laptop facing the wall it hangs off of.)

Do you know what I do with devices that lack switches, or when my power button does not work?

I unplug it.

In the movies they would smash, shoot, etc.

Powered dock? (with speakers) Can find some inexpensive ones, and they probably draw next to nothing in power... none if you turn off the power strip the wart is plugged into when you don't use it.

I have a portable DAB which lasts for 3-5 days continual playing on 2 AA batteries. If I use rechargeables then it is down to 2 days but I can recharge them - well for as long as they last.

As for the OP, I don't think Google is worried much.

Of course they aren't. It's all the same for them... but more pleasant for me.

I use this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir.../adblock-plus/

This is probably the best program I've ever downloaded. After setting it up about 90% of the ads were gone... I didn't even have ads interrupting the beginning of youtube videos! As you go through various websites you can open the adblockplus engine and block individual things that carryover to other sites. It's almost infinitely adjustable!

Sometimes I come to ecomodder on my iPad... just to see what's different and where the ads are placed.

This is the only ad type thing I see right now through my desktop...

I think I'll leave it there.

I also recommend Flashblock - it allows you to decide when videos and/or ads play.
