VW can't use smokescreen anymore

Volkswagen has admitted that 11 million of its cars worldwide were designed to cheat emissions testing. Volkswagen recalled 482,000 VW & Audi cars in the US after the EPA found models with Type EA 189 engines had been fitted with a subversive device designed to hide but did not lower emissions of harmful NOx under testing conditions. This also included also into various six-cylinder 3.0 L diesel VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and Audi SUVs. VW quickly denied the charges.

I'd like to know how the emissions of these cars compare to common diesel pick 'em up trucks. Sure, what VW did is wrong and needs to be punished, but what of the rest of the problem that is all around us ?
