Is this a VX?

This is a '96 civic hatchback for sale with 150k miles and the owner hasn't been available yet. I'm curious if this is a VX, and if it might be worth close to the asking price of $2900 in a good condition.

If it isn't a VX, what is it, as the shape looks similar, and what might it be worth?

VX was replaced by the HX for that generation. HX was only available as a coupe. Looks like the hatch for that generation was either CX or DX according to Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_C...xth_generation)

As far as the price goes, that'll partially depend on the local market. If its unmolested/minimally molested, seems like its in good shape, and a manual, I would say that $2900 would be an ok price, neither good or bad.

Do you have the VIN? That should tell you the exact model, and doing a CarFax or the equivalent is always a good idea. Years ago, someone on here gave us a link to get free CarFaxes, but I was not able to get that to work. I believe that you can do a basic search through the government for next to nothing.

Mine is newer, but with more miles, and it is indeed an HX. The Blue Book is just over $2,000, but it seemed like every car that I see on Craigslist is well over KBB. As I often mention, I had five mechanics standing under my car telling me that it was in great shape. I probably could have talked him down from $2,700, but he actually came down $150 because the fender is damaged. I think that $2,900 is high, but maybe your market is substantially different than mine.

Isn't haggling part of the car buying experience?
