On the ECU diagram for my truck it shows 12V going to each injector, and the ECU wire completes the circuit to allow to voltage to flow through the injectors.
The voltage going through the injector does not go ECU -> injector, it goes injector -> ECU.
That is why you turn the key to accessory power mode instead of start engine mode, that way you get 12V on one side of the injector and nothing on the other.
You want to tap the one without voltage cause then when you start the engine that is where the injector pulses will be.
