81 pounds is the shipping weight, that may include some package weight. But who cares what it weighs if it goes by itself?

My gf was considering selling her car and buying a 1600 dollar ebike (that looks like a scooter). Maybe this item will tip the scales. Availability in Ontario? I dunno...

I'd wager a fair chunk of that weight is the 24v lead acid battery pack. You could always buy it with the plan to upgrade to a NiMH pack later.

It says the range is 15 miles. I wonder how many miles you could get using hypermiling techniques? Pulse & coast, coasting to stops, avoinding braking, etc? Or is that how they got the 15 miles?

For $350, that does sound extremely interesting. Though with hypermiling techniques, it costs me less than $3.00 roundtrip to take my car to work. I would have to ride the bike a lot of days to have it pay for itself. And a car is a lot more comfortable...but still...

My E-bike weighs 55 lbs and it is Aluminum.
So 81 wit packaging is not un-reasonable.

18 mph on 450 watts would be optomistic in my book, especially with a 24 volt permanent magnet set up.

Oh, wait a minute I'm just Fat.

For reference 450 watts can hold me around 16 mph without assist, but I weight 250 lbs. I'm 800 peak watts 36 volt. I want to put the whatts up on my dad's bike to see how it does.

EDIT: and NIMH

from what i read, the 15 miles is a HYPERMILER type of measurement. You need to be very good to get this out of the battery.

E-bike ranges are hard to call.
I have gone 73 miles without charging. Granted I pedaled 90% of the energy exerted. I have also Killed my batteries in < 10 miles.

That said there needs to be a rating system like 15 miles unassisted on flat ground at 10 mph.
