The way to a 3 liter / 100 km VW golf

Greenpece made an interesting papoer on how the VW company could make the Golf 7. gen. into a "3 liter" car. IE: 3 liters og petrol to a 100 km range.

Interesting read, though most of it well know to expereinced Ecomoders:

Here's a guy from the Netherlands who did just that with a Golf IV from 2001 (!), well almost as he reached 31,7 km per litre. His goal was 30.
Mijn Bluemotion: zuinig rijden met Volkswagen Golf IV TDI | Zuinigste Golf IV in aanbouw
The website is only in Dutch and is no longer updated since he achieved his goal. He did it to make a point and to prove it could be done.
Changes he made are typical what you find also here on EM. Reduce weight, rolling resistance, taller endgear etc.
IMO VW charges a lot of extra money for their Bluemotion eco-range while in fact the technical changes are costing them small bucks.

That should be easily feasible. The current Golf is rated at 3,4 l/100 km on the extra-urban cycle.
Last year, I took part at the Think Blue Challenge. I drove a Golf 6 Bluemotion for 15 km on unknown roads for me (harder to anticipate). The roads were small and rather hilly, I could barely use the 4th gear and still had a nice a 3,39 l/100 km. The car was of course completely stock, tires weren't even overinflated.
With that car, sub-3 l consumptions on my daily commute wouldn't be any problem. With an engine spinning at 1400 rpm at 80 km/h...
