I'm still of the opinion that GM doesn't want to build the Volt. From what I've read, their first Volt cars are supposed to be manufactured late this year. Those will go to fleets and government agencies. Then, the Volt will be available in limited markets. I'll believe it exists when it is available in small towns like the one I live in. And there is NO way I will lease a Volt, or buy any electric car and lease its battery pack (as Nissan plans to do with the Leaf).

I wouldn't either. But some people will, and that will create more market for EV-specific battery packs, so more manufacturing capacity will get built, so economies of scale will bring the price down...

Of course GM doesn't want to build the Volt. They didn't want to build the EV1. And they know how to sell cars with music. They didn't even have to paint swaztikas all over the Hummer to reach their target demographic:

Harder to hum along with than the Volt song, but easier to dance to. I'm not going to let either of these songs stick in my head or influence me one way or the other.
