Judging from your signature, I think you and I are alike in the sense that we
have a dichotomy of vehicle "loves". I like fast/powerful cars (see my Trailblazer SS,... I've had a '96 Impala SS, an LS1 Z28, and a supercharged Z71 truck) AND fuel efficient cars (although I don't have any now, I've had two 3-cyl, 5-spd Metros, a 5-spd Saturn SL1 and a 5-spd Pontiac Vibe...all of which got 45+ mpg and the Metros got 52+ mpg)
With most people, it seems to be one or the other. You go on a performance car/truck forum and mention anything about a 4-cyl (or God forbid, a 3-cyl) and you'll get responses of "I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those econoboxes".

...a classic case of the " Clint Eastwood Syndrome" ie:
"...the GOOD, the BAD and the UGLY"
...where:
GOOD = interest in Fuel Economy
BAD = interest in Horsepower & racing
UGLY = the driver
...well, it *does* sorta fit *ME* at least (ha,ha)!

But... why do you need to explain yourself?
Maybe maturity arrives when you no longer feel that need to do so.

Aging is inevitable. Maturing is optional.
My standard reply when people ask me if I grew up here is, "Not yet!"
Happy Belated Birthday, ATaylor!

I am not needing to explain myself...I am bragging!
I hope I NEVER mature!
A year after we were married the priest asked us if there was any problems due to our age differences and my wife said, "Yes, he's too immature for me."
God, I LOVE HER!

You have the ugly part correct...kind of better looking with a hat to cover the baldness.
Nothing BAD about HP and racing in my case. When I first got my SRT4 Neon, bone stock 230 hp it ran 13.8 at 101 mph and got its EPA rating of 30 mpg...now its about 300 hp and runs 12.7s at 110 mph AND gets 40+ mpg...
this is Smart car territory. In the next few weeks it will be getting a fuel controler so we can crank the boost from 14 to 24 psi, still on pump gas, and still being totaly street driven. On every car that I have gained hp I have gotten better mpg while driving at steady speeds. The other not bad thing about my racing is that I MAKE money doing it!

Nope...but she does have a younger one.
BTW, we found that my wifes V6 Mustang gets better mpg at 55 than it does at 50. The 30.8 was at a steady 50, but last week we got a best ever 31.8 at 55 mph!!! At 60 it drops to 27-28....and red lights start killing it.

Best commuting MPG I've gotten with my V6 Mustang (so far) was 31.89 at speed limits between 25 and 65.

It didn't really sound like bragging to me.
