re "stable rate", yup arragonis pointed this out in post 50 and I corrected myself in post 51.

But again, you are acting like reproduction rate is a single variable function, and that that variable has and always will be the variable of choice.

indeed, the morale boost that came after wwii is a great counter example.

Folks like easy answers, but they aren't necessarily the right answers.

Clarification ?
Does that mean you are not condoning the use of conflict war ? ... or are you also not condoning conflict/war as being the only reliable answer? .. in the context of this discussion about it.

#2>
Condoning was only 1 or two things you asserted.

How about the other:
"I don't know of any reliable answers aside from conflict."

Than your latter claim :
"I'm not promoting conflict"

Claiming it is the only reliable answer reads pretty much like you promoting it .. at least as the only reliable answer.

#3>
Please explain/elaborate on your:
"being realistic about it"

That tiny snip only suggests your opinion about your opinion .. it doesn't explain the basis for your opinion , nor how you have accommodated or compensated for all the real world data presented here thus far.

Your simplistic conclusion about me is at best inaccurate.

.. I guess you do too

As posted before there are different 'shoulds' .. there is not just one .. they are not mutually exclusive .. they can and often do overlap.

As for your new question above about weather I would fault them .. Which standpoint for fault ? .. fault for what ? They might be at fault for some things while not at fault for others all at the same time , from the same choice .. different standpoints / criteria / specifics / shoulds / etc... etc.

Note:
Why or how much we care for Person A at all .. or more than Person B is not exclusively determined by our genetic connection to that person A or B .. that genetic connection influence to care for that Person A or B is the influence described in my previous 1 .. but might not apply to 2 and 3 ... that influence genetic part has a finite influence on your final resulting amount of 'care' for Person A or Person B.

Nope.

Also post WWII baby boom was soldiers coming home. Millions of them, probably tens of millions of the worldwide. That is unusual not how populations has worked since.

nope what?

Anyway, it is pretty clear that you guys are operating on some pre-programmed moral imperative, and that seems like it is beyond anything you can question. Lots of cultures are like that. Lots of mistakes are made too (and nobody likes to think they might be wrong, myself included). But half a century of semi-accurate population observations doesn't really do the whole of human behavior justice, especially if you are looking at the data with foregone conclusions.

one would hope we are smart enough by now to realize just how stupid we are.

I think so. I've learned an incredible amount of stuff in the process and saved a ton of fuel and costs (though savings somewhat offset by cost of "education" which is in turn offset by future savings).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Ice_Age

Got so cold in 1982-3 in the Fla Keys they predicted the death of the coral reefs that had been there for millions of years with sustained ocean water temperatures below 60 degrees F.

Predicting things based on a time frame of barely 135 years (1880-2015)?

Are you serious/ The predictions have reversed completely in a little more than half my lifetime. The wife's parents had a total of 20 siblings, next generation 1/3rd of that number. (Last 100 years)

Just wait until all those gen x, y and z members refuse to impoverish themselves to pay our retirement commitments and all of the rest of the deficit flood coming on. They might decide ending it (human kind) intentionally maybe the lesser of two evils.

regards
mech

And on that cheery note I'm off to the kitchen where the best parts of parties take place.

Keep smiling
