Woodgas meetup 2021

I probably should have mentioned it before , but DriveonWood.com is having a meetup in Argos, IN June 3-6. I am attending as I've been curious about converting (even if it's just for curiosities sake) the mercury and it's ~2 hrs from me. If anyone has any questions I can try to find some answers. I've done some research so I might be able to answer basic questions already, but if not I can try to get better ones at the event.

Most of the forum users that run wood (vs charcoal) have a wood 'chunker' to turn it into cubes of a relatively consistent size. Converted pickups (don't have to have a compact setup) use wet hay in a barrel. The particulates stick in the water and when the engine is shutoff the water drains off the hay into a tank.

This has me imagining George Poteet's '32 Ford bobber with an oak barrel in back.

Wood gas is interesting to say the least, but nowadays I'd rather try it for stationary purposes as a replacement for LPG instead of resorting to it as a motor fuel.

They say 22 lbs of dry wood is about a gallon of gas. So... divide by 3, cube it, then take the square root...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I will try to get a general answer. Most like to convert the v8 dakota (90's I think) so I imagine most will be the same vehicle for a little more consistent data.

If this gives you any idea they are making sure to bring extra wood in case anyone who drove a far distance needs any for the return trip.

Yea. Right now I'm mostly just curious. One of the members said I would get hooked, which is definitely possible, but I don't see it happening right now. Just having the know-how of building one could come in handy though.

A gallon of gasoline has around 128,000 btu per pound.
A pound of dry wood has about 10,000 btu per pound.
But wood gas is supposed to be a lot less efficient than gasoline or propane.

A gallon of gasoline is ~6lbs so that would be 20k BTUs per lb of gasoline vs 10k for wood (I didn't double check the BTU for wood)
